who was MLK Jr.?
as a nation we're obsessed with MLK Jr.. once i heard him called "the greatest American ever produced" so typical of americans to claim such a person as theirs. but MLK was more than America's production, he was the world's. he not only spoke of the injustices on our homeland but connected his message to the universal struggles to the world. his famous "i have a dream speech" as i was reminded in church yesterday was inspired by the word of God. one of the verses came out of Isaiah 40:4-5:
"Every valley shall be exalted
And every mountain and hill brought low;
The crooked places shall be made straight
And the rough places smooth;
5 The glory of the LORD shall be revealed,
And all flesh shall see it together;
For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.”
i visited the MLK Jr. monument in DC a month ago, it was great to see his inspirational quotes reminding me of peace and love (inspired by Jesus) to conquer all and cure the evils of the world. and it starts with us, forgiving, touching, loving, and inviting others to eat food, converse, and work towards something.
